The George In Rye

Just back from a very lovely, restful night away at the beautiful George in Rye, East Sussex. Rye has to be one of the quaintest towns I’ve ever visited and is complete with cobbled streets, town walls, a beach and even a sweet shop just like the one described in ‘The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me’. In fact, the only two branded stores inside the whole of Rye are a Boots and a sadly vacant Woolworths!

The hotel has been given a complete overhaul by owners Katie and Alex and Katie has done a fantastic job of giving the hotel a contemporary twist whilst still remaining faithful to the building’s heritage. The hotel has a stunning ballroom (pictured above) decorated with huge mirrors and exotic bird wallpaper, whilst the food on offer is delicious!

The attention to detail in the bedrooms was also one of my favourite features about the hotel. Each bed has it’s own beautiful quilt and hot water bottle (complete with uber stylish woollen cover) and each bathroom (much to my delight) is kitted out with Aveda products.

If you’re looking for a wedding venue, an idyllic honeymoon destination or even just an antidote to the January blues, The George comes with high recommendations!

It’s Quirky & I like it!

My husband works for an arts festival & this morning he forwarded an email to me about this very quirky mobile restaurant:

Here’s what the email said:

“MALINKEYS consists of a fully equipped kitchen, a small cocktail bar and covered seating capacity for 80, downstairs and upstairs (which has the most fabulous views). We have had 3 events since opening only 3 weeks ago, which have received rave reviews and repeat bookings. Our events so far have been designed around the 1920′s theme to add a bit of theatre and fun. The staff dress in costumes, we play 1920′s music and serve a variety of fun food however one of our unique selling points, is that our fully fitted kitchen and trained staff can provide a varied menu to suit your event. We have all the food hygiene training required plus a certificate in personal licensing. We are insured with NCASS, have full structural engineering and fire certificates and are registered with Sedgemoor District Council. If you would like to know more we would be pleased to hear from you. Please call Toby on 01934 713200/07810736481 or Tina on 07899893005″

If you’re looking for an unusual venue to get guests talking this could just be it!

I Heart: The Gherkin

A little while ago I took a trip into London town to visit Oliver and his team at 30 St Mary Axe (or as it’s more commonly known, The Gherkin). And what a stunning venue it is. Ok so it’s not your typical fairytale wedding venue but for the right couple and the right wedding The Gherkin really would make a stunning venue. Not only is this amazing piece of architecture iconic of modern London, the 360° views across the city are stunning. Stunning I tell you! The real selling point for me however, is that the venue changes with the light; as the sun moves around the sky, eventually sets and finally nights falls. It almost feels like you are getting two venues in one!
Hired for a wedding, couples are given use of the penultimate and very top floor and if the food is anything like the orange juice I was served (!) guests are in for a real treat.
Although at first glance the venue might seem corporate and perhaps a little clinical, I think with a little work and the help of a talented florist, the place could be transformed into a stunning backdrop for the perfect city wedding.
